Who We Are
The European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) is a non-profit organisation and an independent representative European-wide organisation devoted to multiple sclerosis (MS). It serves as Europe’s and the world’s largest professional organisation dedicated to the understanding and treatment of MS.
History
ECTRIMS was founded by the Dutch neurologist Otto Hommes and European colleagues in the early 1980’s to strengthen communication and to promote and enhance research, care and learning among professionals for the ultimate benefit of people affected by MS. It was agreed upon that ECTRIMS should serve as an association of physicians and scientists with an interest in MS, and that meetings would be held annually with the venue rotating among European countries. The first congress was held in 1984.
